Welcome to SLUSA Mentorship and Internship Programs!
At SLUSA, we are excited to introduce our new Mentorship and Internship Program specifically designed for American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting students. This program aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world interpreting experiences, providing invaluable opportunities for growth and professional development.
About the Program
Our internship program is designed to help ASL students meet their practicum and internship requirements while our mentorship program provides working ASL interpreters valuable guidance and feedback as they work towards full certification. Students will be paired with an experienced certified ASL interpreter who will guide them through various professional settings, offer insights into the interpreting field, and provide constructive feedback to enhance their skills.
Program Components
- Personalized Mentorship: Each student will be matched with a dedicated mentor who will provide one on one guidance, career advice, and support throughout the program.
- Practical Internship Experiences: Students will gain practical experience by observing and participating in interpreting assignments in a variety of settings, including educational, medical, business, and community environments.
- Skill Development Workshops: Regular workshops will be held to focus on specific interpreting skills, ethical considerations, professional conduct, and business practices.
